Last week, Dr. Stock, Alina Swafford, and Rob MacLennan attended the NSCA national conference in Indianapolis. While at the conference, Dr. Stock was awarded NSCA Fellow and both Alina and Rob presented research from the lab. Alina was awarded top M.S. student podium presentation!
Last week, Dr. Stock attended the International Society of Electrophysiology and Kinesiology (ISEK) annual conference in Dublin, Ireland. While there, he gave a podium presentation for the paper titled "Additional Insight into Biarticular Muscle Function: The Influence of Hip Flexor Fatigue on Rectus Femoris Activity at the Knee." Additional information about ISEK can be found here: https://isek.org/
Along with lab alumni Jacob Mota, Jennah Hernandez, and Jesse Ortegon, Jr., Dr. Stock published a new manuscript in the Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology. The manuscript's first author was University of Oklahoma Ph.D. student Joshua C. Carr. The study examined the influence of hip flexor fatigue on the activity of the rectus femoris activity as a knee extensor, with the main finding illustrating a compensatory mechanism to preserve muscle strength at a joint. A link to the article's abstract on PubMed can be found here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29940493
Students, members from the lab, and collaborators have worked together to publish a new study in Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. The title of the manuscript is "Echo Intensity Versus Muscle Function Correlations in Older Adults are Influenced by Subcutaneous Fat Thickness." The manuscript can be found at the link below.
Dr. Stock was recently named Fellow of the National Strength and Conditioning Association Foundation. Information about NSCA Fellowship can be found at the link below. In addition, a story was written about Dr. Stock's Fellowship on UCFToday.
On Thursday, March 1, Dr. Stock presented ultrasound data from the laboratory at the International Conference on Frailty and Sarcopenia Research. The conference was held in Miami, Florida. Additional information about this conference can be found here: https://frailty-sarcopenia.com/
On Saturday, February 3rd, UCF DPT students Adam Hamilton and Brent Johnson presented their Capstone research project at the 14th Annual Cutting Edge Concepts in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine conference. The event was held at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando. Adam and Brent presented to over 500 attendees and did a great job!
Along with collaborators from Utah State University and Furman University, Dr. Stock published an article in this month's edition of the International Journal of Sports Medicine. The title of this study was "Effects of Age, Joint Angle, and Test Modality on Strength Production and Functional Outcomes." The abstract can be found here.
Earlier this week, Dr. Stock was named one of UCF'S Advancement of Early Career Research Grant awardees. This $7,500 grant was a competitive, university-wide opportunity. The funds will be used to finanically support a UCF graduate student.
In collaboration with researchers at the University of Florida and Texas Tech University, Dr. Stock was a co-author on a newly published study in Ergonomics. The study evaluated the safety considerations of different-sized hospital chairs for older adults. Dr. Stock's role was to assist with force and surface EMG aquision and analysis.
